Acupuncture for Stress and Anxiety

For emotional balance and physical health

Acupuncture for Stress and Anxiety

Traditional Acupuncture stimulates the body’s natural feel-good hormones and reduces stress hormones like cortisol and adrenalin. Studies show that Acupuncture effectively treats stress and anxiety without the confusing side effects of traditional medication. For thousands of years, Acupuncture points have been used to balance the mind and body. Acupuncture is the foundation for physical and emotional health and great for relieving stress and anxiety, depression, burnout and fatigue. Although stress can be tremendously beneficial and motivate us when we need it, there are also times when our stress response becomes ongoing, unmanageable and exhausting. We all feel happy, sad or anxious at times; in a way, the problem begins when emotions and feelings are ignored. Repressed sad or angry feelings pushed inside feel unpleasant and may lead to more profound unhappiness. If feelings of stress and anxiety become stronger, ongoing stress and anxiety fatigue the mind and body,  leaving you in poor health and exhausted.

Acupuncture is Rejuvenating

Chinese medicine works by rebalancing the bodies internal muscles, nerves and organs, such as the liver. Studies have shown that Acupuncture helps to desensitise certain areas in the brain. Treatment calms internal emotional, and organ systems that have become overactive. Acupuncture is rejuvenating, relaxing and helpful when dealing with various types of burnout, fatigue, stress and mental health conditions. Research revealed that brain scans on patients receiving Acupuncture showed areas of desensitisation within the brain associated with anxiety and emotions. It helps you feel relaxed and stimulates various functions within your body, including the brain’s production of endorphins and serotonin. While endorphins act as a natural pain killer, serotonin is a mood-enhancing substance helping you to feel relaxed and energised. Whether you have been unwell or need to wind down, our stress clinic will make you feel like new again.

Benefits of Acupuncture

Acupuncture has long been recognised as an effective treatment for chronic pain and anxiety.

• Acupuncture improves the circulation of blood and lymphatic fluids. Increased blood flow that brings fresh, relaxing oxygen to body tissues.

• Acupuncture stimulates the digestive system, eliminates waste products from inside the body, improves the immune system and enhances recovery from stress and exhaustion.

• Traditional Acupuncture boosts circulatory systems to benefit blood pressure, circulation, muscle tone, digestion, and skin tone. It also improves the performance of the lungs.

• As the flow of energy or Chi improves, so do the nerves that connect them, helping to desensitise the spinal cord and calming the brain.

• Traditional Acupuncture can promote general well being, enhance confidence and self-assurance.

Maintaining Balance and Harmony

Acupuncture is the most widely applied Chinese therapy and is best known for its natural, safe, and effective pain control. It can treat a wide variety of stressful disorders. Acupuncture is based on maintaining balance and harmony within the body by facilitating the flow of life energy. When chi/Qi (life energy) inside the body becomes stagnant and congested, all kinds of mental and physical illnesses can follow. Acupuncture works by inserting ultra-fine needles into acupuncture points along the body’s meridians (energy pathways). Chinese medicine has identified more than 350 Acupuncture points on the body’s meridians; many are used to treat anxiety.

Conditions Effectively Treated by Acupuncture

Acupuncture patients typically experience few side effects, and treatments often leave patients feeling very relaxed and energised. Acupuncture complements and can be safely used in conjunction with drugs and medical treatment plans. When stress is chronic, your risk increases for depression, anxiety and a wealth of health problems.

Effects of anxiety can include:

  • Digestive issues, upset stomach, nausea, constipation, heartburn.
  • Constantly worrying.
  • Rapid heartbeat or chest pains.
  • Your mind won’t stop racing.
  • Feeling frazzled and can’t focus.
  • You cant relax or sleep.
  • Loss of normal libido or reduced sexual function.
  • Teeth grinding and excessive tension.
  • Painful, tense muscles, especially around the neck and shoulders.

Chronic Stress-induced Disorders

Acupuncture works well to treat acute and chronic stress and anxiety-induced disorders such as chronic fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome, hypertension, insomnia, PMS, menopausal symptoms and depression. Also, it works well with chronic pain associated with dysfunction of the immune system such as psoriasis (skin disorders), allergies and asthma, and the treatment of conditions such as alcoholism, addiction, smoking and eating disorders.

Our Stress and Anxiety Acupuncturists

What our clients say

After my Acupuncture treatment with Athena, I felt calm and relaxed and remained that way for the rest of the day. I also slept like a rock for the next week or so. While this may be something that needs upkeep, as it’s not a one-time cure-all, I will be scheduling monthly sessions to combat the stresses and anxieties of everyday life in a natural, affordable way.

Angie – Acupuncture

I have seen Helen for Acupuncture recently for some nerve problems, which I can say has been amazing. Acupuncture was a new experience to me, but after 18 months of taking medication for another problem, I was able to come off the prescribed drugs after 10 days from the first treatment and after 4/5 sessions combined with Osteopathy my long term problems have went away.
Not only are all the staff here professional in every way, they genuinely understand your needs and make you feel incredibly comfortable. They have a very relaxed family manor which I love.

Kate c.

Relaxing, professional and just brilliant.
