Holistic Aromatherapy is a therapeutic treatment which looks at the individual’s physical, psychological and spiritual well being rather than just the symptoms of an illness.

The oils are carefully chosen and work directly on the chemistry of the body by being absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream.

Essential oils are potent extracts that contain the substances that give plants their unique smell and medicinal properties. They are produced by tiny glands in the petals, leaves, stems, bark and wood of many plants and trees. In nature, the oils are released slowly, many have their own specific natural purpose . The natural product is either heated or crushed, their oil glands burst, releasing the plant’s  oils which we sence as a strong aroma .

It isn’t known exactly when or where the art of aromatherapy began. It is thought that Chinese knowledge of medicinal oils may have reached the west by way of the Egyptians, Greeks and Roman. The first recorded use of plants in Britain was in the 13th century  ( we were a little behind in those days ! )  from then on, manufacture increased and the essential oils became widely used as  antiseptics and medicines.
